Meetings

The Malvern Hills Group normally meet on the third Thursday of the month at the Baptist Church Hall, Abbey Road in the centre of Great Malvern. (See the map below). (Look out for different venues for specific events). The meetings feature speakers and presentations from time to time, along with sharing campaign news, planning events, and disseminating materials for human rights campaigning in many different ways concerning both local and international issues. Visitors are always welcome whether or not you are an individual member of Amnesty International itself.

Amnesty Bookshop

The bookshop is at 3 Edith Walk, Great Malvern, (See the map below) and started trading in June 1998. It was officially opened in October 1998 by Sir Michael Spicer M.P., and the Malvern Group of Amnesty International is grateful to him for his interest in, and support of, Amnesty International.
A committee runs the shop and the main organiser is Jenny Morgan who devotes a lot of her own time and money to the cause. The shop is staffed by volunteers - opening hours as below.
As well as buying quality second hand books the shop is a good local contact point for information about Amnesty International generally and the latest news of the Malvern Hills group in particular.
All donations of books gratefully accepted - and any volunteers to help in the shop would be very welcome.

A Record of Some of the Events in 2006 and 2007

The list below gives details of some recent events featuring the Malvern Group. If you volunteer you could be in the photograph too...

Malvern Group Supporters' Evening
The 2006 Malvern Group Supporters' Evening was held on Thursday 21st September 2006 at the Mount Pleasant Hotel. It featured a presentation by Michela Wrong, who is a freelance journalist and contributor to the New Statesman. She was talking, in particular, on human rights issues in the Congo.
In 2007, in October, Craig Murray spoke to an audience of hundreds at the Forum Theatre in Great Malvern. This inspiring event featured the former UK ambassadot to Uzbekistan telling some very uncomfortable truths about his time in that troubled country, the routine use of torture (even to the death) and the pointless harvesting of "information" from such sources. Sadly, the security services of both the UK and the USA seemed to set great store by worthless confessions obtained in this way.

Malvern May Fair
Here's a taste of another recent event - the Group had a presence throughout the Malvern May Fair collecting faces for the Million Faces Petition as part of the Control Arms Campaign. The photograph below shows buskers Jacek Agopsowicz, Nick Hart, Jon Holmes, and Rob Mason, with Dr Trevor Trueman, far left at one of the event sites. Over 300 faces were collected to add to the petition.
